What information we collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, including your name, email address, postal address, and payment information when you subscribe to our service. We also collect information automatically through cookies and similar tracking technologies, including your IP address, browser type, and pages visited.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process your subscription and send your monthly boxes
- Send you transactional emails about your subscription
- Send you marketing communications where you have consented
- Improve our website and services
- Comply with our legal obligations
Legal basis for processing
We process your personal data on the following legal bases: contract performance (to fulfil your subscription), legitimate interests (to improve our services), consent (for marketing communications, for analytics cookies, and separately for advertising and remarketing cookies), and legal obligation.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use cookies and similar technologies for two separate purposes: measuring how the site is used, and advertising. The banner on your first visit asks about both and gives you three options — Accept all, Analytics only, or Reject all. Nothing beyond strictly necessary cookies runs until you choose, and agreeing to measurement does not agree to advertising: they are separate decisions and you can take either one on its own.
Analytics
Loaded only if you accept analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4, which tells us which pages and stories people read. Google’s privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
Advertising and remarketing
Loaded only if you accept advertising cookies. These let an advertising platform recognise your browser or device so that we can show you Chilling Screams again on other sites, apps and social platforms after you have visited (remarketing), build audiences of people who have shown an interest, and measure which of our ads led to a signup. Our lawful basis for all of it is your consent. The platforms we use for this are Google Ads (conversion tracking and remarketing audiences — policies.google.com/privacy) and Meta, the advertising platform behind Facebook and Instagram (facebook.com/privacy/policy). We may add other advertising, social or affiliate platforms of the same kind in future; the same consent rules apply to any of them, and this page is updated to name them.
Current status:we are not running any advertising campaigns at the moment, so no advertising or remarketing tag is active on this site today. This section describes what happens if and when that changes — and nothing will load without your consent either way. An earlier version of this policy said we used Google Tag Manager and Google Ads conversion tracking; neither was ever installed here, and that wording has been corrected.
We also use Google Consent Mode, which means that if you say no to advertising, Google’s tags are instructed not to store or use advertising identifiers for you at all.
Changing your mind
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time on our cookie settings page — turn advertising off, turn analytics off, or clear the lot and be asked again. Withdrawing is as easy as consenting and takes effect immediately; it does not affect anything done before you withdrew. You can also block cookies at the browser level, though that may affect how some sites work.
Data retention
We retain your personal data for as long as necessary to provide our services and comply with legal obligations. Subscriber data is retained for the duration of your subscription plus 3 years. Marketing data is retained until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data. You also have the right to data portability and to object to processing. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the address below.
Third parties
We may share your data with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating our business, including payment processors, fulfilment partners, and email service providers. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
